I am currently a third year chemical engineering student at the University of Pretoria. I reside in a residence on campus named Huis Jasmyn but originally come from a very small town in the Freestate called Clarens. I currently have spare time on my hands and would love to spend it helping others. I have been in a residence since I started high school and have always helped my friends with whatever maths and science they struggled with. I have served on our residences committee and have been a mentor at Huis Jasmyn for the last two years-I have thoroughly enjoyed helping people and assisting them with overcoming obstacles that they thought they would never overcome. At school I was privileged enough to have very passionate maths and science teachers and would love to give the passion and support that the gave to me to someone else, because without the support and encouragement that I was shown I would have not been where and am today and would have not achieved the marks that I did in matric.

I am a University-trained Ethnomusicologist and African Drumming instructor holding a BMus music degree from the University of Pretoria. Additionally, I am a qualified rhythm and sound therapist. I have 15 years’ experience in teaching music for ages 2 years up to 60 years of age focusing on individuals with and without learning disabilities. Currently I have my own practice where I use the African drum as an educational, developmental and therapeutic tool. I enjoy working with and developing people of all ages and have lots of knowledge and experience which I can share. I have worked with children and adults with many a learning disability including ADHD, Autism, Language, Communication and Motor disabilities, Sensory Integration difficulties and Hearing Impairment. I have also worked alongside Occupational and Speech therapists as well as Educational Psychologists and continue to work together with them in order to give the best to the clients seeking help. In my time that I taught at schools I regularly had to use the medium of music to assist children in learning subjects such as Maths and Language so I have a well applied general knowledge in how to use music as an overall developmental tool.

I am a high-achieving person who loves helping others through tutoring. I spend my free time volunteering, hiking, and watching documentaries. I am currently in my second year of a Bcom Accounting Sciences at the University of Pretoria on an academic scholarship awarded for academic merit.I always make sure I see things from the learner's perspective so I can teach and explain things in ways they understand. I love helping people not just improve their marks, but feel more confident in themselves.

I later entered the corporate world in the field of human resources, and I was in this profession as HR Manager for over 17 years. Furthermore, I was a part-time lecturer in Copywriting at the Open Window University of Arts (Centurion) for five months in 2013, and I am currently still free-lancing in the field of skills development as Skills Development Facilitator, Assessor and writer of outcomes-based training manuals. In terms of formal qualifications, I possess a 4-Year Diploma in Education, a B.A. degree in the humanities (with majors History and Afrikaans-Nederlands via the University of the Free State), a Certificate in Advanced Labour Relations (via the University of Pretoria), a Certificate in Hiring and Recruitment Practices (Unisa), a Certificate in Basic Bookkeeping (Damelin) and various skills development courses. I'm currently employed as an Accounts Supervisor for a cost consulting entity. I am also still validly registered as an educator with the South African Council of Educators (SACE). I have always been an educator at heart, and now, in my retirement, I still have the desire to transfer knowledge, skills and expertise to a younger generation.
