Megan R - Tutor in Hatfield

I am a friendly and positive person, with a good sense of humor but I'm also patient and easy going when it comes to lessons and explaining content. I love to encourage and help people, especially when it comes to studying, as education is something I'm passionate about. I'm currently a MSc student (2020) at the University of Pretoria, specializing in Science Education. I did my undergraduate degree in BSc Ecology (2018) and my honours degree in Plant Science (2019), and have a love for biology, nature and the outdoors. I had Physical Sciences, Maths, Life Sciences and Geography as subjects at school, along with English (HL) and Afrikaans (FAL).

2015 - completed my matric, with 3 distinctions in Geography, Afrikaans (FAL) and Life Orientation. My other subjects included Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and English (HL). 2016-2018 - I studied BSc Ecology at the University of Pretoria, completing my degree within the 3 year time period. My modules included genetics, microbiology and biochemistry to a second year level and zoology and plant science to a third year level, while also touching on subjects such as plant pathology and geology. 2019 - I completed my honours degree in Plant Science with an education based project that dealt with the phenomenon known as "Plant Blindness" and its prevalence in South African schools. My modules were ecology based, including modules on plant ecology, forest management, land restoration and reclamation, spatial analysis and statistics. I competed this degree with a distinction for my final dissertation. 2020 - I am currently working towards my MSc in Science Education, focusing on a curriculum update for one of the first year modules. I am also registered for a statistics module as well as a teaching methodology module. 2018 and 2019 - I volunteered as a temporary reading assistant for a reading center. My responsibilities included helping students to read in both English and Afrikaans, as well as keeping track of their progress and assisting them with working the computer programs. 2018 - I attended a professional development course on Science Education that dealt with different methods of teaching Biology as a subject and discussed, among other things, how to help students understand the work rather than memorize facts.
