My name is Lethokuhle Duma. I am a fourth year student, studying civil engineering at the University of Witwatersrand and I plan to become a geotechnical and/or structural engineer because of my big interest for construction, infrastructural development and the earth sciences. My interest comes from growing up in a community where infrastructure and development was lacking, it has always been my desire to learn the necessary skills it takes to implement such constructions in a community in hopes to be a part of a team which specializes in such responsibilities. My love for maths and sciences was also a major contributing factor that encouraged me to choose engineering as a career path. my other interest are design, art and technology.

I believe I have both the experience & skills required to make a positive impact and add value in the important role of being a tutor. I am a self-driven, goal orientated & self-motivated individual who puts a premium on excellence and quality. I work as a Curriculum Technical Assistant for the National Tooling Initiative Programme (NTIP), which is a skills & enterprise development company focusing on the Manufacturing sector. My academic background includes studies in Engineering-Industrial. I have tutored to University & High School students with a focus on Mathematics, Physical Science & Accounting. As a person who works with academic curriculum and students on a daily basis in my full-time job I believe I can bring a sharp mind to the people I tutor especially in the often-difficult subjects such as Mathematics. I have also gained knowledge on a number of technical industries and working environments through my studies and practical experience where the studies of Mathematics, Physical Science & Accounting are often applied practically. I am a problem solver, critical thinker and innovator that believes in making a change wherever I go & I would like the opportunity to make a positive change in your studies.

I am a highly motivated, result-driven and willing to go the extra mile to teach my students and help them perform to the best of their ability. I achieved 78% on my National Senior Certificate for Mathematics at the end of 2019.

I explain concepts in a way that’s easy to grasp. I also have a lot of patience for students struggling. I love maths and excelled in it throughout my school career. I love to tutor in a way that motivates and encourages students.

In addition to Accounting, I also enjoyed studying Maths. I achieved several academic awards and I was chosen by the school to enter Maths and General Knowledge programmes. I had the honour to volunteer at Holy Trinity Catholic Church to help Grades 10-12 learn and excel in Accounting, Maths and Geography.

I love numbers, I love teaching them , as much as I love learning about them , and I may not have the knowledge to change the world but, I do have the knowledge to teach what I know and I can teach one child at a time in a fun way that ensures they never forget what they've learned.

I am a very patient teacher. I possess excellent communication skills. I have a deep understanding and broad knowledge of Mathematics. I also excel in exam technique coaching in order to achieve the best possible mark and maximize the students potential to excel.

I have a genuine fascination for Maths that I hope to inspire as many people with, making it more interesting and enjoyable. I am willing to put in the time and effort to find a way of understanding mathematics specific to each student's strengths and apply what seems complicated to everyday life to make it relevant.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Science and I was exposed to Mathematics up until varsity level. I have also tutored high and varsity learners, so I believe I can add value to student's academics. I am very passionate about science and logical thinking and I believe every student should be given the opportunity to excel in their academics. I also understand that there are students who are not mathematically gifted and might want to just pass the subject. During my tutoring sessions, I make sure that I test the learners as much as I can because they learn while being tested. I also believe in practical and real life problem solving skills.
