English Language and Literature tutors in Cape Town

I have a Bachelors Degree in English Studies from Stellenbosch University. I am currently studying for my Postgraduate Certificate in Education specializing in English Home Language. I am fluent in English reading and writing and have completed a 120- Hour TESOL Certificate Course in English teaching. I have obtained my 120-Hours TESOL Certificate course which enables me to teach English as a foreign language.

I have had english as a subject till matric and i have had English Studies and Applied English Language Studies during my 3 year degree at Stellenbosch. English is one of my two majoring subjects. I love helping people whom might struggle or just need an extra boost with the language!

I thoroughly enjoy teaching languages as it stimulates creativity and passion. English is not only a practical subject to succeed in, but a subject that builds confidence at school and in any future endeavors. Poetry and Literature can be deep and meaningful to the reader as it exposes the reader to different perspectives and life lessons.

I achieved 96% for this subject in my final NSC examinations in 2018, which was the 5th highest mark in the Western Cape and the top mark at my school, Herschel Girls, which was the top academically performing school in the western cape that year.

I am a passionate educator with over 4 years of educational experience as an English Language Teacher. What has helped me develop my teaching abilities is being able to have taught in different countries and experience a multitude of differences between people and cultures, who all have the same goal: learn English. I have taught every type of English lesson imaginable: grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, phonics, listening and literacy. Every time I will adapt and change, bring in new methods and interesting activities for effective learning that is individualised.

I am passionate about English Literature and Language. I obtained a 5 (the highest score) in AP Language and Literature in the United States and I obtained a 7(the highest score) for English Literature HL in my International Baccalaureate Diploma. I am currently majoring in English at the University of Cape Town where I have achieved consistent first class passes. I have experience tutoring both IB English and South African matric.

I have 4 years experience tutoring and managing after-school projects in various areas around Cape Town and drew up curriculum booklets for SHAWCO Education at UCT aligned with the CAPS curriculum in Numeracy, literacy, sports and more from grade 1 to grade 10s.

Literature has been my absolute passion since a young age. I'm never without a book to read and I love reading between the lines to deepen my experience. I took English as my major during my undergraduate studies.

With the exposure I have had, I've been able to expand on key characteristics such as patience, empathy, understanding and care which enables me to be a great tutor. I believe tutoring should be tailored to the specific student and I have become adept in identifying the best means for a student to achieve a deep understanding of the work/subject at hand. I would also consider myself to be quite relatable and I would always ensure that the student is comfortable and confident to participate in lessons and to work towards any goals that are set.

I am the best tutor for this subject as I am extremely passionate about the English language! I received distinctions for English language in High School as well as at university. I am well read and am able to analyse literature well. I am an extremely competent English speaker as well as writer and will be able to assist students with Essay writing and creative writing and orals. I will also be studying an advanced diploma in Copywriting in 2021 by which my English writing skills will be further enhanced! I have also completed a 120hr TEFL course, meaning that I am qualified to teach English as a Foreign Language.
