Mastering writing is as important as mastering reading. It is important to me that writing lessons are approached in an engaging way that fosters an interest in it with the student. I like getting students to write about things that interest them in order to engage with the subject more. I also enjoy learning about all sorts of subjects I would otherwise not come across!

While I received distinctions in high school and university for both English and Advanced Programme English, it is also my current job as an editor and freelance writer that qualifies me for this tutoring position. I will work through sentence structure, grammar, vocabulary, style, tone and more.

I know how it feels writing content and thinking that it is the best, only to have a lecturer draw lines through all 6 pages of an essay. I know how it feels having a supervisor criticize content that I had worked on for a whole semester only to get 40%. I have learned to unpack topics and analyze them thoroughly. I have learned how to group content and structure it in a manner that makes sense to the reader. It takes time and a lot of research before content can be meaningful to a reader.

I am a published short stories author in Canada and have the ability to combine theory and technique to teach creative writing as well as essay and research writing. I am also co-author to a published occupational therapy research article. I can tutor allncompnents of writing creative or essay topics and teach nessecary techniques such as mindmapping, vision boards and essay planning.

Throughout my postgraduate studies, I have needed to write many academic pieces, from literature reviews to biological essays. All these pieces requires a certain level of understanding, not only of the course work, but of the English language to correctly portray the information and concepts. I'm confident I can help students master the basics of the English written language.

I have always enjoyed English and learning about the various rules and exceptions that the language has. I pride myself on knowing correct spelling and punctuation. I realise it can be difficult to learn all the various exceptions and rules but I feel like I could make that easier due to my love of the language.

I excelled at English in Highschool. I also completed the IEB Advanced English course and am currently studying first-year English at Wits. My degree also requires that I write many creative pieces for theatre, and thus I feel that I would not only be able to give advice on how to write great analytical pieces but also spectacular creative writings.

I had modules on teaching writing in University. I also have experience teaching writing to Grade 1 at Westerlig Primary. I also have experience teaching cursive writing. I am good at creating activities and games for developing handwriting skills as well as writing. Phonics and handwriting should be linked as the teaching of the letter sound and how to write it go together. All my activities are based on CAPS.

Not only have a taught English in Korea to non-native speakers, but I also currently freelance as a technical writer and can provide valuable assistance to struggling students in terms of creative writing in English.

I have a strong grasp of the English language and have had both local and international education. I can write at doctoral level, and I am happy to guide students to their best writing ability. The lesson plan will be based on the student's needs.
