I worked at Regina Coeli College as an English teacher for (P5: age 10). Every week there would be a different topic. Every week I would teach the students vocabulary according to the topic. Then we would practice asking and answering simple to more complex questions based on the topic. These activities would be mostly speaking and writing. The students will be assessed with speaking, writing and listening tests during the year about the different topics.
I worked at Regina Coeli College as an English for Integrated Studies teacher. I taught Science in English for Primary students (P1-P3: age 6-8). I worked with the Thai teacher to create a curriculum for these ages and we both taught the same topic each week. I had 14 classes a week and focused on vocabulary, reading and speaking. I used PowerPoint to teach the different science topics in English.
I worked at Westerlig Primary as a Grade 1 teacher. I had my own home room. Everyday was different even though I taught the same subjects (English HL, Afrikaans FAL, Mathematics and life skills). I tried to incorporate the week's life skills topic with the other subjects. All the subjects were based on CAPS. The day would start with taking register. Then we would move to introducing this week's letter/sight words. Do a few activities to remember the letter or sight words(focused language activities). Then I would move to mathematics. At the end of the day we would do reading activities. Depending on the day there will also be art/other life skill activities and FAL activities. The next day will always be build on from the previous day's learning.
When I studied Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase at the University of Pretoria, I had 39 modules in total for the four years. We focused on child psychology, child development, different philosophies and approaches to teaching. In my second year I chose English as an extra elective module. In my fourth year I specialised in Early Childhood Development. I also did my practical at Magalieskruin Primary and BMW Early Learning Centre and passed with distinctions. I was one of only two students who were selected to do my practical at BMW Early Learning Centre.
I have a TEFL Certificate and taught English as a foreign language as well as science in English at Regina Coeli College in Chiang Mai, Thailand for almost two years. I have experience with children aged 6 - 10.
