I have extensive experience tutoring maths to both high school and primary school students. Most people find maths scary because of how strange it seems at first glance. I try to make people see that it isn't as hard as they think it is and that they can do it. In my time as a tutor I have learned how to make maths seem less threatening but also how each individual has a different approach to learning. Often it only takes a bit of patience and dedication.

Maths can be mastered when we learn that it is another way to express ourselves. The language of Mathematics expresses thoughts that are precise (able to make very fine distinctions); concise (able to say things briefly); and powerful (able to express complex thoughts with relative ease). When we think of it as a new language that we are learning, we start thinking differently about how to use it to find an answer that makes sense.

I really enjoy working through a maths question and feeling the satisfaction when you get the answer right at the end and it all starts to makes sense. I love seeing the same reaction from people who maybe didn't understand but finally get it. I did A level maths, specifically pure maths, stats and mechanics, I believe the best way to learn maths and to understand it is to practice all the time. I give lots of questions and examples and my own notes. I have done two years of math courses during my time so far at university.

Mathematics has always been my passion. From high school where maths was my strongest subject, to earning a degree in mathematics from an accredited University in USA. I have always enjoyed mathematics, and my recent work experience as a mathematics specialist at Columbia Southern University made me realize my passion for teaching.
