I am a highly qualified and experienced English Teacher with years of experience teaching a variety of ages groups in a variety of contexts. I am a dedicated teacher who has a commitment to lifelong learning. My teaching philosophy is summed up by the Maori word for learning ako, which views knowledge as a collective process: as you teach you learn, as you learn you teach. I have taught and lectured at various schools and colleges in South Korea, Oman, and South Africa. I completed a BA, an Honours in English, and an MA at Rhodes University. I also attained a Postgraduate Diploma in Tertiary Education from the University of South Africa and a PGCE from the University of the Witwatersrand. I have a TEFL certificate from the Bay Language Institute, a certificate in the Strategic Implementation of ICT Integration in Education from the University of the Witwatersrand, and completed my amanuensis training at the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute.

I achieved a distinction for History in high school and currently take a history module at university level as well as Ancient Cultures. History is a subject I believe every student should take and understand, rather than simply recite.

I love History as a subject because it is amazing how each topic can be linked but also I have a good grasp on History as a subject. I am able to conceptualise what is needed in an essay which is what history becomes when you are in Grade 10 and up and so that makes me a prime candidate. I attained two marks from my first year of University with an average of 67%.

I am passionate about making History relevant, understandable and fun. I enjoy using project-based learning in order to make the concepts more concrete and enjoyable. I’m confident in assisting with understanding new or challenging concepts, teaching study skills and helping with assignments, projects and tasks.

I am completing my degree in early childhood development this year. This means that I am qualified to teach grades R-3 and I am equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills in order to teach up to grade 7 level.

I did History up to Grade 12 and it is a subject that I enjoy and have good knowledge of. My university education has also given me critical thinking and research skills that are important to studying History

Not only did I LOVE History in high school and ace it, I furthered my History at varsity, honing my scietific writing skills and mastering how to transcribe a good argumentative essay. On top of this I have a broad knowledge of World History as it is a hobby of mine to learn about the past!
