My name is Jaime Watkins and I am a first-year at Stellenbosch University, studying a Ba in International Studies. I find History, Biology and English particularly fascinating and I think that studying them should be more interactive and immersive because it really is not just about passing an exam (Although this is important :) ). I am creative, fun and enjoy reading, running, movies and coming up with new, strange recipes.

Experience
I matriculated with a Bachelor's Pass in 2019 at Crawford College La Lucia in Durban (IEB Curriculum). The subjects I was passionate about were; English, Advanced Programme English, Biology, History and Afrikaans and I am still passionate about each of them respectively. I am currently working towards finishing my Ba degree in International Studies and have found the shift to online learning both interesting and doable. I have experience in working with primary and high school students in the way that I tutored my own peers and occasionally assisted the children of family friends with their homework. My passions are writing and photography and I hope to pursue them professionally after I have finished my degree.

Bachelor's Pass - Crawford College La Lucia

I attended Crawford College La Lucia in Durban from Grade 9 until matric and enjoyed the experience however I definitely find university more open and interesting.

  • English Literature

    English was and still is my favourite subject. I love reading and understanding the themes and fundamental make-up of novels and books is something I do in my spare time. Encouraging others to love reading is something that I would like to do full time.

    I achieved a distinction for History in high school and currently take a history module at university level as well as Ancient Cultures. History is a subject I believe every student should take and understand, rather than simply recite.

  • Afrikaans

    I achieved an A for Afrikaans in High School and really enjoy both writing and speaking the language. Moving from Durban to Stellenbosch has helped me to develop more practical speaking skills and so I believe I am fairly proficient in the subject of Afrikaans. Afrikaans is nie so moeilik as jy van dit hou!

  • Writing

    Writing is a hobby of mine that I would like to pursue professionally and so I have developed this skill by writing for my high school newsletter, writing my own short stories and perfecting my essay researching and structuring skills. This is truly a passion of mine and something I find comes naturally to me.
