My first language is Afrikaans and I passed it with extinction in high school. In the past 30 years, Afrikaans has grown exponentially as a language and there are so many more avenues to explore. I am well familiar with the older, more traditional material and authors, but can add fun and appreciation with more modern Afrikaans.
