For 30+ years, I have been an educator, specialising in English and Dramatic Arts. Both subjects involve understanding English literature, with different emphases. My experience as a teacher and my love for the expression of ideas in different forms of literature mean I will bring interesting ways of analysing and understanding literature texts.

I excelled at English in Highschool. I also completed the IEB Advanced English course and am currently studying first-year English at Wits. Thus, I have had plenty of experience with English literature and how to analyse it.

I have English on Third Year level at University and specialised in Shakespearean Literature and Creative Writing. I have also been teaching English for the past 5 years including grade 12’s and have also marked Grade 12 final examinations for the last 3 years.

Literature has a bad reputation for being difficult. In truth, it is so interesting. After all, most literature looks to entertain as well as touch on social issues. With just a little help, I believe we will easily be able to get over the hurdle, and the literature will become enjoyable as well as easy to understand.

I have a proven track record of academic accomplishment, having received distinctions all the way from matric to Masters level at University. Literature is one of my passions - one that I love to share with learners. Literature has a lot to say about what it is like to be human and what it all means. It does not matter what you end up doing with your life, sooner or later you will end up grappling with the big issues. E.g., is life worth living and if so, why? What is a good life? Are we all ultimately alone? Is love real or is it an illusion? What motivates people to do good or bad things? People have always grappled with these kinds of questions. Literature offers the key to a rich world of human thought and reflection. It is a resource that you can always draw on as you try to make sense of your own experiences. Literature confirms that as far as the human journey through life is concerned, you are never alone. Let's explore!

I am an English native speaker as I was raised in a household where we spoke strictly English. I have also been an A student in English my entire life. I started reading at the age of three. Even though I can communicate in other native languages too, English was the language I’ve spoken my entire life.

My name is Catherine and I love to learn! My belief is that all students require different methods of learning because not all students are the same. With the correct skills in learning and studying any student can excel. It all comes down to routine, good learning habits, correct study methods and memory techniques. When a student actively takes charge of their studies, their success engenders an enjoyment for learning which in turn encourages further success. Every individual is unique and no one study method works for everyone. Understanding the learner's strengths and weaknesses can assist in finding out what techniques will work best for learning. When the right study method is being used, memory follows. My testament to truth of the above statement is in my own achievements. I was an average school learner who struggled with many subjects. But a combination of determination and hard work, continuous study and a development of good study habits and methods brought me to the end of my Matric year with seven distinctions. This was not something I could have achieved without the help of good tutors and teachers. I have an Honour's degree in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing and I am currently studying for a BA in Ancient History and Classical Culture.
