I am a researcher at UCT, with fifteen years of teaching experience in languages, ancient history, and classical mythology. My students have ranged from primary school children, to postgraduates, to adults simply wanting to learn more about a subject they are interested in. With a D. Phil in Classical Philology from Oxford, I can teach Latin and Ancient Greek, ancient literature (think Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, the philosophy of Plato, the histories of Thucydides and Tacitus, the love poetry of Ovid, and more), the history of English, historical linguistics (how languages have changed over time), general linguistics (phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, morphology), and sociolinguistics (how language use is determined by the people who speak it). I can also teach ancient history, mostly focusing on the Greeks and Romans (for example, the rise of democracy, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar), but am also researching ancient North Africa, and have a special interest in the Aegean Bronze Age (the Hittite empire, the historical Greece behind the myths). Sessions can easily be tailored to students' interests: teaching should inspire enthusiasm, and be entertaining as well as educational.

I am currently a second year undergraduate Actuarial Science student at the University of Cape Town. I thoroughly enjoy learning and teaching Maths, I excelled in Advanced Programme Mathematics and Core Mathematics in high-school and would love to share my strategies towards achieving a high grade for maths with other current school students. Although there are other subjects I have a keen interest in and can assist with such as English, Biology and History. Throughout my high-school experience, I had passionate tutors and teachers who made me love their subjects and who built my confidence which allowed me to excel. I would love to be able to do the same for current students needing a tutor. I aim not only to tutor you academically but also to encourage you through your academic journey, which is so much more than just learning simply because you have to. I aim for my students to want to keep learning and growing their knowledge.

Hi everyone, I`m a native speaker of German and studied to be a secondary education teacher. I have been living in sunny Cape Town for 3 years now. I grew up in Germany and did my Master`s in Secondary Education teaching English and Spanish at Goethe University in Frankfurt. Parallel to my studies, I worked as a substitute teacher for German and foreign languages at primary and secondary schools. After graduating, I taught different levels of German as a Foreign Language to kids between 6 and 17. Currently, I'm working with different international departments, using professional German and English on a daily basis. Furthermore, I will take an advanced training course for DAF (GFL) with the Goethe Institute in order to improve teaching my native language and to have a certified degree in teaching German. Having experienced the language learning process from different perspectives, I`m well aware that there is no approach that works for everyone. Therefore my lessons are tailored to your personal needs and tempo. Apart from being a language enthusiast, I have traveled to almost 40 countries and lived on 3 continents.
