Afrikaans tutors in Roodepoort

My name is Nicole Brophy am I 25 years of age, currently studying  child Physcology. I have previous tutoring experience in English, Afrikaans and maths literacy. I have attend targeting talent at wits university for two years which was an academic programme for maths and English and physical science. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me the necessary platform to help individuals excel in their school work and gives me the opportunity to engage with individuals by getting to know different characters as a whole. I am eager to make a difference in individuals lives and look forward to becoming apst old the team.

I am open, trustworthy person and I enjoy teaching as well as learning. I am currently a BA student at University of Witwatersrand majoring psychology and linguistics. My subjects at university also include English and sociology. I have tons of patience and I love to come up with new and creative ways to help my students get the best results that they are capable of.

I have a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology (Wits). Psychology was my additional major. Therefore I have an excellent understanding of Biology (Human, Plant and Microbial), Chemistry (as Biochemistry was major component of my degree) but I also understand different personality types due to my Psychology background. Therefore my tutoring is usually centered around the type of individual I'm teaching. Regardless of the academic level of student, I always go back to basics when teaching any subject because I never know if the student might have a crack in their foundation that they aren't aware of. I tend to specialize in weaker students that are failing/are on the brink of failing that need help grasping the essence of the subject.   Unfortunately due to the fact that I work a full time job, I am only available on weekends to tutor.

By making Afrikaans "come alive" students come to love this highly descriptive language and enjoy the learning experience in an uplifting, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. After the assessment of a student's level of comprehension and assisting with the immediate challenges at hand (i.e. homework of the day) we proceed steadily towards building a sound understanding of the structured principles and vocabulary at a pace geared towards the student's ability to grasp. There is no such thing as a "dumb question" and my students' success is my motivation for teaching.

I ended my matric year with a final mark of 87% for Afrikaans Additional Language, even though i grew up in Thailand and had never even heard of Afrikaans until i was 12 years old. I can prove to students that even though Afrikaans might not be your home language, with the right teacher and work ethic anything is possible.

I am fully bilingual and have a good command of both English and Afrikaans. I teach grammar, vocabulary, spelling and lots more. My classes are presented in a fun, extremely entertaining and engaging way through games, music and props. Many of my students look very forward to their sessions with me every week. I have a great sense of humour which makes the learning environment a good, healthy place to be because students feel relaxed. A stressed student will not absorb and remember information in so it is imperative that my students feel calm.

I think that I am the best tutor in that I too struggled with afrikaans between Grade 6- grade 9. From that I focused my energy in developing my afrikaans abilities in all areas. I have been tutoring afrikaans for the passed 4 years and I focus on building a strong afrikaans foundation which will enable them to complete their tests with ease and confidence

Afrikaans is a beautiful language to both read and speak. When we understand and can read and write another language, we get a whole new world opened to us. We see our other cultures see things and then can relate to people in a better way.

My goal with tutoring is to assist and teach learners academic skills that will serve them well in school. I will partner with the learners to teach them to become independent participants in their own learning. During our time togther, skills like oraganization, task initiation, focus and time management, will be taught in order for the learners to have successfull learning experience.
