Hi all, My name is Kaelin, and I hope that I shall have the opportunity to mentor you when discussing the wonderful and complex topic that is Human Biology. I have always been fascinated by the intricate and minute systems which allow life to be, particularly us as humans! This is why I began an undergraduate degree at Stellenbosch University, where I pursued a Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences, which focused on Microbiology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics. Now I am currently completing my BSc Genetics Honours degree. I have also completed two certified online courses. One involved case studies and personalised medicine, such as the advances in biomedicine which revolutionise drug development, drug treatments, and disease prevention. A series of case studies were used to illustrate principles of how genetics are being brought to bear on refining diagnoses and on personalising treatment in rare and common diseases. The second online course (Big Data, Genes and Medicine) taught me exciting facts about the human body biology and chemistry, genetics, and medicine which were intertwined with the science of Big Data and skills to harness the avalanche of data openly available. We investigated the different steps required to master Big Data analytics on real datasets, including Next Generation Sequencing data, in a healthcare and biological context, from preparing data for analysis to completing the analysis, interpreting the results, visualising them, and sharing the results.

I do have a love for teaching and helping others therefore I decided to study Education. I have my Adult Basic Education Training Higher Certificate and I am currently studying towards my Bachelor in Education at the University of South Africa. I am a qualified online English teacher. I have both my TEFL and TEYL certificates which allows me to teach foreign students English online. I have been teaching English online since June 2016. I teach both adults and children. I teach English grammar, reading, fluency, conversational, pronunciation and writing. I enjoy teaching online because I get to complete my students and I am able to give my full individual attention to my students and adapt my teaching to my students pace. For adults my lessons are more serious, focused and to the point but with my children lessons, I try to be more laid-back, I like to have fun and speak about what they love so I can incorporate what they like into our lesson to ensure I keep their attention and if need be I act a little silly to get them to laugh and learn because that is the best way to grab their attention.
