Having both a musical and teaching background I am best able to introduce primary age children to the violin and develop a love for music. Having completed grade 6 in violin and having a basic knowledge of piano (Grade 3) I am able to give young students the best start in their musical journey teaching them the foundation blocks of violin playing as well as providing a sound knowledge in music theory.

I have a bachelor's in horticulture and soil science, with an honors in souls science as well as a MBA. I ran companies, have been on boards while pursuing a freelance career in music as well as tutoring university subjects like stats, business management, management accounting and economics.. I also conduct orchestras on all levels as well as playing the violin and viola. I am a mature gentleman with a young family. My 2 youngest are 5 and 7 respectively and my oldest 2 are 30 and 32. I am a strict teacher, but I never resort to yelling or insulting a child. If necessary, I will use a stern voice. I understand that each student is different, therefore I use various methods of problem solving. It is my belief that no one is unteachable and if a pupil struggles with a certain concept it is the teacher's duty to find a different approach that works. It is important to me that the lessons should be fun and educational. I value constructive criticism; I highlight mistakes and provide the student with the necessary tools to fix it and I complement pupils on their improvements. My teaching environment is constructive and encouraging.

I hold a Violin grade 8 from Unisa as well as from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. During my BMus studies at the Northwest University in Potchefstroom, I was a student of Professor Piet Koornhof. I have a lot of experience teaching the violin, from complete beginners to learners on an intermediate level. I have prepared many learners for examinations with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College London. My focus when I teach the violin is on the development of a solid technique as the key to unlocking a beautiful sound.
