I completed three public examinations consisting of a short solo programme, a single complete chamber music work and a concerto performance. I also wrote an honours thesis on the influence of being historically informed on the interpretations of professional concert pianist. For this research piece I conducted a survey among successful concert pianists around the world focusing on the following topics: the use of urtexts, the influence of experiences with historical instruments on present-day performance, the role of the pianist when interpreting the music, etc.
1) This degree entailed the successful completion of three full concert programmes in public (see my you tube channel for excerpts), 2) as well as the writing of a doctoral dissertation (http://upetd.up.ac.za/thesis/available/etd-06162012-124917/unrestricted/00front.pdf) and the publication of one research article. 3) Three articles were accepted for publication: 3.1) Kleynhans, C. 2009. “The performer as interpreter”. Musicus, 37(1):30–38. 3.2) Kleynhans, C. en Van der Mescht, H. 2012. “The pianist as performing artist: The Chinese virtuoso-pianist Lang Lang and his popular success”. LitNet Akademies, 9(1):208–234. 3.3) Kleynhans, C. 2012. “The Chinese virtuoso-pianist Lang Lang and his model Vladimir Horowitz, the 'Last Romantic'”. LitNet Akademies, 9(3):699–742.
This degree consisted of three concert programmes: Solo performance, Chamber music performance and Concerto performance. I also had to complete a masters dissertation in partial fulfilment of the degree MMus. I wrote a biography that focuses on the life and work of the South African concert pianist Steven DeGroote.

I hold a Violin grade 8 from Unisa as well as from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. During my BMus studies at the Northwest University in Potchefstroom, I was a student of Professor Piet Koornhof. I have a lot of experience teaching the violin, from complete beginners to learners on an intermediate level. I have prepared many learners for examinations with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College London. My focus when I teach the violin is on the development of a solid technique as the key to unlocking a beautiful sound. If you want to learn how to do a slow and luscious vibrato, I am the teacher for you.
