Hello! My name is Rhiannon Murray and I am a 23 year old female teacher. I attended the University of Cape Town for the duration of my two degrees (Bachelor of Arts, triple majoring in English, History and Film and Media and PGCE specialising in SP/FET in English and History methods. ) I am now an official teacher who is looking for a position where I can inspire, assist and support a fellow learner in achieving their goals. I have a very unique approach to education and believe it should be something that excites an individual rather than induces a sense of fear or anxiety. I, therefore, keep my tutoring and teaching methods as fun and entertaining as possible whilst still being exceptionally educational. I am qualified to teach my methods: English and History; which are subjects that I absolutely love and I would be privileged to share my passion with a fellow student, at an SP/FET level (Gr8-12) I believe in constant growth and learning and I hope that I can help someone do so. My name is Nomvelo Zungu. I recently graduated from Rhodes University with a BA Honours in Psychology. As an ambitious professional with group and individual instruction experience, I believe that I would make an excellent tutor. Tutoring, at its core, is based on learning approaches that are decided upon according to the goals and strengths of the student. I believe this is what differentiates between a successful tutor and learning session, vs an unsuccessful session. Hey there, my name is Josh! I am currently a third-year Actuarial Science student at UCT. I have been tutoring matric maths and physics for the last 2 years. I passed my IEB matric exams with six distinctions including 86 for Advanced Program English and 88 for mathematics. I scored 96 for my maths NBT. I feel as though I usually work best with strong students but I am extremely excited by the opportunity to reteach fundamentals to weaker students. I believe that high school mathematics often does students a disservice in the way it approaches fairly fundamental concepts. Despite my strong performance in high school, it wasn't until university that I grew to see the full picture behind a lot of the maths I was taught. Students are often shown how to follow steps to answer questions without a clear picture of the machinery behind what they are doing. In my experience, this often leads to weaker students feeling as though they "can't do maths". This attitude is naturally harmful and somewhat self-fulfilling. It is my hope as a tutor to enrich the mathematical world of strong students by offering a glimpse into the bigger picture and to build the confidence of weaker students by reapproaching questions starting from a more fundamental level.
