I have completed the 120 hour TEFL International qualification. I believe that English is a language that is important to learn as it is the official language of most countries. It is widely spoken, helps when travelling, is the primary language for business. I have also taught Business English at School and College level for many years.

I enjoy the German language as it is one of my home languages. I am fully fluent as both my parents are from German descent. I attended the German Primary School from Nursery School level until completion of Grade 7.

I enjoy teaching vocabulary , as words are vital for communication. I believe that a wide variety of vocabulary will improve all areas of communication, and is therefore important for listening, speaking, reading and writing.

I understand that learning to read and reading is about listening and understanding , as well as working out what is printed on the page. Reading is wonderful because through reading stories, children are exposed to a wide variety of words. I need to assess what interests students at a specific age to make reading fun and exciting.

I understand that the knowledge of grammar in any language helps the student with the improvement of written work and the correction of mistakes. The understanding of grammar helps students to acquire good communication skills, reading and writing skills, especially in the English language. I believe that grammar teaching can be made more interesting by teaching in context ie. integrating grammar into other parts of the curriculum, such as creative writing or reading (grammar should not be a stand alone activity).

I have been an English language lecturer for the past 9 years, teaching English FAL level 2 to level 4 at College level, which is equivalent to grade 10 - 12. I am well qualified in Education and my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) includes a qualification in teaching languages. I have also obtained a TEFL International qualification which allows me to teach English to foreign language students. Teaching languages is a passion of mine.

Psychology was one of my majors when I obtained my BA Degree. I have always enjoyed assessing the principles of human behavior. Psychology has also helped me as a teacher to ascertain students behavior, and to use assessments correctly to understand where students are in their learning. I find it fascinating to understand how people learn, interpret events and make decisions. As I work with young adults every day, I can encourage them to make good choices in their daily lives.
