I have been involved in teaching in one way or another since I was in high school. My sister's school friends were sent to me if they had any trouble with their high school math and I got my sister from a 14% in grade 8 to being 3rd in her class (with 82%) in math core. I have taught children as young as 4 and am currently lecturing 1st and 2nd year design students in subjects ranging from photographic studies to business communication, webdesign and marketing to design thinking and history. I have a degree in Psychology and I am currently completing my Honors. I have also studied a Diploma in Drama and additional studies in English as well as a TEFL certificate. I love learning and I love teaching even more. I believe all learning should be fun. Studies show that we are more likely to remember what we enjoy. I hope to be able to help you with your learning experience.

Experience
Lecturer
I have been lecturing at a private design college for the last 5 years and continue to do so. This is a part time job, where I lecture 2 days a week. I usually begin my work day at 09:00 and can lecture anything from a theory heavy subject such as Design History or Communication Studies, all the way to the fun, practical subjects such as Photographic Studies and Skills Application. I lecture, mark, set work and lesson plans, communicate to both students and parents and assist with event work on campus. My lecturing day generally ends between 15:30 and 17:30, but my admin work keeps me busy after hours.
Photographer & Editor
I opened my own photography business in 2013 and continue to run it to date. A day at this job requires flexibility because I don't have the same responsibilities every day. But my duties generally include: quoting and invoicing clients, marketing, editing work, building photo books and making client orders. On a shoot day I would need to prepare my gear for the day, meet with the clients and shoot whatever I have been hired for. A wedding day looks very different than a product photography day, but ultimately I work between 8 to 10 hours on an average shoot. I have slowed my business down recently to accommodate my academic work.
Freelance Tutor
I earned extra money in high school and during part of my studies by tutoring children who were struggling with their work. I tutored Biology, English, History and Art, but was most requested for Mathematics as I had an excellent track record of getting students from a point of failing to A's and B's..
Photography Assistant
I was a part time assistant, helping the main photographer to prepare for jobs, carrying items, preparing lights, working with technical items behind the scenes and taking secondary photographs where needed.
Drama Teacher
I was a specialist drama teacher for students ranging from grade 1 to 3. My duties included lesson planning, break duty, teaching students CAPS based drama lessons, assisting with choir, co-directing the school play, dance classes with grade 4 to 7 students and parents meetings.
Locum Teacher
I was a locum teacher for a private school while the usual teacher was on study leave. I performed duties such as lesson preparation, break duty, teaching grades 1 through 9 drama classes and physical education classes. Marking their work and compiling report information.
Performer
I rehearsed and performed children's shows. We worked at various schools depending on where we were hired to work on the day. My job also included collection of money and scriptwriting.
Drama Teacher (extra-curricular)
I worked for an independent drama company offering drama lessons to children ranging in age from 4 to 17 years old. I would travel to each school to provide drama lessons. My duties included lesson planning, sourcing of necessary items, marking the register, working with each child on their performance tasks for the week, assisting with open days, holiday workshops and shows.

BA Psychology - UNISA
This BA in Psychology specializes in psychological counseling, but includes other subjects such as Zulu, Business English, Philosophy and Social Work. I finished with 6 distinctions out of 8 subjects and an entry into an Honours program.
Certificate in Wedding Photography - Vega
This course covers the fundamentals of photography, as well as the business aspects, editing and posing involved in wedding portraiture.
TEFL - I-to-I Academy
This is a 120 hour TEFL certificate, covering teaching techniques, grammar, vocabulary and more.
NDip Drama - DUT
This is a National Diploma in Drama. Students who complete this have spent 3 years learning performance techniques, stage management and directing skills and will have completed a minimum of 15 shows during the course of their studies.
Certificate in Performance - London Academy of Dramatic Arts
This certificate shows the ability to perform drama at the highest level that LAMDA offers. Students who are able to complete this certification have shown an ability to perform a solo song, a monologue and a poem of choice to the highest degree.

I currently lecture Design Constructs at a private design college in Durban, this subject covers art and design history in detail over the course of the 1st year Bachelor of Design degree. I aim to make my lectures relevant and enjoyable because it is really important to understand how history will inform our decisions and actions going forward. You can't successfully break the rules if you don't understand why they are in place.

Primary School
Teaching a child in primary school requires empathy, patience and enthusiasm more than anything else. I love teaching/tutoring and have experience with children at all levels of the primary school system. I have a BA in Psychology with a specialization in Childhood and Adolescent development, which gives me unique insight into the psychological and educational needs of a primary school child. More than anything, learning should be fun. I aim for your child to feel more like they have had a day playing than a day learning.

Drama
I have studied Drama at a Diploma level, I also have a performance certificate from the London Academy of Dramatic Arts as well as professional performance experience. I have taught Drama to children from the age of 4 up to the age of 17, including as an extra curricular activity, as a locum teacher and as a full time drama teacher for a primary school in Durban. I am currently a member of the Westville Theatre Club, so drama is still a huge part of my life.
