I started as a teller, cashier at a bank branch. I filed and worked in the back office, served customers and assisted with admin at an accountant's whilst studying. Thereafter, I lectured in accounting software at tertiary whilst studying post-graduate. My internal audit career started as an auditor and I progressed up until being a quality assurance manager for the internal audit division within the insurance industry. I have worked in mining, manufacturing, finance, insurance and entertainment industries, private and public sector, as a consultant and in-house. Currently, I review internal audits, train team members, evaluate the division's performance and serve as support to my team. We liaise closely with ethics, governance and risk management teams to support our organisation.

I struggled with Trigonometry in high school myself, so I know how to overcome this beast - practice, practice, understand, practice, practice, understand. Make triangles, sin cos tan cosec sec and cot part of your inner circle, create your own 'crip' notes and voila!

Of all the parts of Maths, this is the part I enjoyed the most. Algebra, to me, is pure, disciplined and universal. Whilst I struggled to get the basics under the knee in primary school, once I got the hang of it, Algebra became my strength when preparing for exams.

Afrikaans is my home language and I have trained in teaching this language to others, whether complete beginners or intermediate. I know how Afrikaans "thinks" and can help you do the same. After all, it only has three tenses!

MS Excel was a subject in high school - we never had a computer at home and when I started working, Excel became my new best friend at work. I also completed a few courses in Excel training, both at tertiary and experienced level.

Accounting is as natural as breathing air to me; and the foundation is laid in high school. For every debit, there has to be a credit; 10 golden rules to follow! I had financial accounting until my third year tertiary, performed audits in related areas, taught and tutored high school learners.

I have been reading English since I was Gr 2; I studied TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and sometimes, I even think in English, even though it is not my home language! The very best way to overcome language challenges, is reading.
