My name is Courtney Brown and I am currently in my second year doing my Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of the Witwatersrand. My majors include Marketing, Management and Economics. I matriculated in 2018 at Hoërskool Linden with an average of 79.2%, and attained distinctions in Afrikaans Home Language, Economics, Life Orientation and Hospitality Studies. I love working with people, especially in a leadership role. I was elected as class captain in 2016 and 2017, and was chosen to be a prefect in matric where I worked a lot with the grade eights. I have a passion for working with children and teenagers, and love assisting them with any type of problem. I am fluent in both Afrikaans and English, as I was raised bilingual.

I have a huge passion for English literature, and enjoy reading classic novels, poetry and plays. I write my own poetry and use a lot of techniques I learnt in school in my poems. English literature was always my favourite aspect of English, and I even took Advanced Program (AP) English in grade 11.

Afrikaans
I grew up as fully bilingual, speaking English to my father and Afrikaans to my mother. My primary and high school education was all in Afrikaans. Thus, I view Afrikaans as my home language. I would love to help non-Afrikaans speaking students understand this intricate language, whether it is grammar and concord or Afrikaans Literature. I also achieved a distinction for Afrikaans in my Matric year.

I am currently in my second year at Wits University studying a BCom, where one of my majors is Economics. I took economics at school where I achieved a distinction in my Matric final exam. I love economics as it is so relevant in our lives and gives you a different perspective of how our economy works. I can teach Economics in English or Afrikaans.

Writing
My essays I wrote in high school always achieved above 75%, and some even achieved above 90%. My teachers regularly read my essays to the class. I also worked as a writer for our school newspaper, which won best newspaper in the district in 2018. Writing comes very naturally to me and I would love to share my tips and techniques with other aspiring young writers or a student in need of assistance.
