Lara B - Tutor in Randpark

Good day, my name is Lara Broderick and I look forward to potentially meeting you. I Matriculated in 2016 with 7 distinctions and moved on to my goal of being accepted into medicine. In 2019 I graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Science in human genetics and physiology from the University of the Witwatersrand. Following this, I was accepted into the graduate entry program for medicine at Wits, and am currently completing my third year. I have been tutoring part-time since 2017, and have completed 400 hours to - date. I enjoy working with individuals of all grade levels and interests. I am deeply passionate about working with students and helping them achieve their goals, whether that be to achieve a distinction or understand that one section of work that has always eluded them. Over the years, I have gained extensive experience tutoring SAT English, primary and high school English across multiple curricula (including IEB, GDE and Cambridge) and Life Sciences. I personalize each lesson according to what the student needs, and complete a series of small assessments within lessons to further direct the lessons. I look forward to meeting with you and discussing how I can help.

Tutor

I have worked as a tutor for over 3 years and completed 400 hours of lessons. Here, I have learned how to work with students of different ages, experience, and interest levels. I tailored each lesson to the student, and have learned a variety of ways to approach different topics and explain concepts in accessible manners. My other responsibilities included making lesson plans, marking tests, and analyzing exam papers to determine exactly where a student needed help. I was also involved in training other tutors for the company.

Subjects taught
  • History

I achieved a distinction in Matric for history, and have cultivated a strong set of essay writing skills through English tutoring. Excelling in history includes learning the facts, interpreting questions, and writing exemplary essays. These are all skills that I place focus on in my lessons, as well as targeting any specific projects the student may have.

  • Biology

My love for Biology is what initially drove me to major in Human Physiology and Genetics in my Bachelor of Science, and eventually pursue medicine. I have been tutoring this subject for three years, and have remained up to date with the way it is commonly tested in exams. Furthermore, I try to use my love for the subject to bring interest to the lessons.
