I am a qualified Millwright with more than 15 years’ experience in heavy industry. On the coal mines I worked on high voltage ac equipment as well as hydraulic systems. After the mines I worked in the manufacturing sector. The production machines were mostly PLC controlled with pneumatic actuators. I left the manufacturing industry and worked on material handling equipment. The forklifts, reach trucks and other lifting machines were either battery, LPG or diesel powered. But they all used hydraulics to lift. I am currently working in the rail industry. This is a high voltage dc environment. I have a Millwright trade certificate from the Mining Industry Engineering Trades Training Board; a Diploma in Power Engineering from the University of South Africa as well as a BA degree from the University of The Western Cape. I enjoy cycling. It seems as though age is making me faster. I am a husband and father of two daughters.
