Part-time Psychology Augmenting Lecturer

I am currently a Part-time Psychology Augmenting Lecturer for the BSS4 programme. I teach 112 students level one Psychology. My students are those students whom require the extra support into transitioning and managing the shift into the university context. I have 2 groups, and teach double 45minutes sessions. Prior to COVID-19 I was teaching contact classes, however since the 16th March I have been teaching my students via online (remote learning). During the lockdown period I have been setting questions and activities for my students to complete to ensure that they are learning with me, and that they are engaging with their studies. I created a WhatsApp group and am assisting my students round the clock. My students send me queries and we have individual consultations via WhatsApp private messaging. I have recorded voice recording for the power point presentations that I have made for my students. My students are currently engaging with the online assessments that I have set for them to ease them into understanding how online assessments are conducted.

Tutoring Level 1 Psychology modules & Mentoring

I tutored first year level 1 Psychology module A and B for the academic year of 2016 and 2018 respectively. I was a Mentor for the academic year of 2017 and played a pivotal role in ensuring students academics were improved to good standing. As a tutor I would teach the students the module content during tutorial 45minute double sessions. I would create worksheets of activities for students and provide students whom needed extra assistance with individual consultation sessions. I would make sample testing activities for my students and come up with innovative and yet creative ways for my students to learn. As a mentor, my duty was to teach Saturday classes. I was incharge of a group of mentors who would teach Saturday classes. I was the invisible friend to assist students entering into university to ease their first year of studies. I was assisting them in transitioning and managing the shift in them leaving high school and entering into university.

Academic Development Officer (ADO)

As an Academic Development Officer (ADO) I was the very first line of contact for the students. I was the ADO for the School of Applied Human Sciences (SAHS) and managed over 1000 students at a given time. I assisted students whom were majoring in Psychology, Criminology, Industrial Psychology, and Social Work - both undergraduates and postgraduates. I would schedule, plan and execute workshops based on the academic needs of the students. I was asked to give a speech by the Dean and received a standing ovation from the first years I was delivering my speech too. I once had a workshop were I retaught psychology content chapters to students whom were underperforming as in obtaining between 40% and 50% and I managed to teach the students and they worked well with me and they increased their studies by 10% in the next test. They were obtaining 70% and above. Liaising with students and ensuring their registration is approved correctly, with the necessary counselling consultation provided by me.
