Caitlyn B - Tutor in Sea Point

Hi! My name is Caitlyn and I am a 23 year old university graduate from Cape Town! I have always been interested in tutoring and I will be completing my postgrad in education at UCT this year, so I would love to put what I learn into practice. I love to read, watch movies and series, listen to music and most importantly travel! I have a deep interest in current events as well as history - which is why I majored in Political Science and History at Stellenbosch University. I have completed my Teaching English in a Foreign Language course (TEFL), so I've got you covered when it comes to grammar! I look forward to meeting you and hopefully helping you out in anyway that I can!

I graduated from high school in 2015. I took a break from studying and went on gap year in 2016 where I worked as Au Pair for a family in Norway and then as a camp counsellor in Germany. I came back to South Africa and began studying at the University of Stellenbosch in 2017. I graduated with a BA Humanities in 2019. From November 2019 until March 2020 I was working at a ski resort in North Carolina. I am currently enrolled in a 10-week online copy-editing course through UCT and a few other online courses through Coursea and Udemy.

BA Humanities - Stellenbosch University

Subjects taught
  • English Literature

I absolutely love to read and English was one of my favourite subjects at school! I love to look for the deeper meaning in any book that I read and love it even more if it's been made into a movie or tv series! I hope to go into editing/ publishing in the book world so this is something I am passionate about.

  • English as a foreign Language

I completed my Teaching English in a Foreign Language certifcate at the end of 2019 so I have an understand of how to teach English to students who don't use it as a first language. I would love to put what I learnt in to practice and to help you learn a language that I believe will be very useful to you. I also have ideas of how to make learning a language a bit more fun and up to date!

  • Mathematics Literacy

I absolutely hated maths throughout school. It was something that never clicked for me and caused many, many tears and upset - so I get it! Then I switched to Maths Lit in Grade 10 and my perspective changed completely. You can actually enjoy maths when it's practical like maths lit is. I ended up getting my highest mark in Matric for Maths Lit, so I believe I would be able to help you. I also come from a place of patience because I completely understand how hard and frustrating maths can be.

  • History

History is by far one of my all time favourite subjects! I've loved it since I was in grade 7 and ended up majoring in it at university! I think the most important way to get someone to love history is to make it fun, which is exactly what my teachers did at school and what I would hope to do for the students that I tutor. I like to remind people that while history may seem daunting, it's really just about learning a story.
