I have been involved in teaching and tutoring Grade 6 and 7 maths for 15 years. I love helping students grasp new concepts and grow in confidence. I have mostly worked in under-resourced schools and with learners whose first language is isiXhosa. Through one-on-one and small group support, I have seen learners make dramatic improvements in their maths scores over the course of an academic year.

I teach math to Grade 6 learners three days per week, and I coordinate a group of volunteers to work with these students for one hour per week. I organize the teaching materials based upon what the learners a covering in class. At the beginning of each school year I administer a baseline assessment and then place the learners into 4 different groups depending on their results. The same assessment is administered at the end of the year to monitor the effectiveness of the program.

I have a real love for teaching basic math skills and a proven track record of successful students. I enjoy helping students understand why math is practical in everyday life. My goal is to see my students develop confidence in their ability and a solid understanding of the foundations of math so that they will be well-prepared for the more difficult concepts in high school and university math.
