I am an Information Systems Graduate form the University of Cape Town. I have always known that I love helping people, particularly with their school work, I used to do a lot of peer tutoring when I was still in High School. However, it first dawned on me how strongly I feel about education and actually doing something about it when I started doing volunteer tutoring with a student society called Ubunye UCT, TeachOut. During those Mathematics and English sessions I realized that tutoring is actually more than just explaining concepts, but also about building a relationship with the person being tutored, the learners. I realized that the more you understand the person you are tutoring, the easier it becomes for them to grasp the concepts being explained. So tutoring for me is a really fun activity to do, also because I would like to believe that the learners who I tutor grow to like me and always get excited to see me. Bonus point is, I form very good bonds and actually enjoy spending time with the learners who I tutor.

As a Student Front Desk Assistant at The Woolsack Residence, UCT, I was expected to work closely with fellow students at the reception area. My daily activities included answering phone calls, writing emails to a specific person needing a communication about something specific to the residence, helping students with booking laundry slots, signing in and out students into the residence and just being a friendly face to meet first when one comes into the residence.
The most important part of mastering pure mathematics in primary or high school is to actually love it. I have this way of making people understand and grow to like mathematics. I am very good at explaining and actually making the concepts as simple as possible to understand them. With mathematics really you need a tutor who empathizes with the learner being tutored and understands that not everyone is good at mathematics, so treating the learner with care, being gentle with them, is one of the key points that make me an ideal tutor for mathematics.

I am very passionate about all things English. I have experience in tutoring English with all levels of school going children. I read a lot of books in my spare time, which means that I have vast exposure to different styles of writing. I have read books written by world class authors as well as average books, meaning that I can identify the quality of writing expected from an English learner. I have been speaking English for as long as I remember, with an accent easy to understand for all English speakers. I am very good in writing essays and speeches, so I have good tricks up my sleeve to share.
