Accountant / Financial Reporting Analyst
Duties : • Perform preliminary variance analysis, research and resolve errors relating to misallocation or under accrual, and prepare correcting entries supported with relevant documentation. • Review profit or loss reports for any unrecorded liabilities and prepare correcting entries to ensure that all costs are accounted for in the correct period. • Complete and submit monthly reporting pack in SAP BPC after financial controller review and approval. • Prepare and submit additional disclosure data to Enterprise Reporting Web extension (weekly liquidity, Top 30 Customers, FTEs). • Risks and opportunities analysis, continuously identify opportunities to save costs and recommend cost improvement on productivity to the business unit. • Prepare General Ledger Reconciliations and provide them to business. • Manage business partners’ budgets and cash flow and providing detailed analysis of financial data. • Prepare and submit the country specific statutory reports. These include monthly VAT calculations and reports submitted to BDO for review and filing. • Implement/ enforce internal controls for SOX purposes, and submit SOX evidence to Global Finance. This is to ensure compliance with legislation affecting reported results, IFRS / US GAAP changes, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX). • SOX evidence includes authorization, reconciliation and reviews of AR, AP and CB sublegers, creditors with debit balances, calculations of provision bad debts, profit or loss review, search for unrecorded liabilities, and work in progress. • Assist internal and external auditors with annual and quarterly audits. • Resolve queries raised by business units, Global Finance, auditors . • Lead monthly PL and BS review meetings between the FSSC departments and the local finance management to discuss financial results. • Be the main point of contact for Group Controller visits. • Keep up-to-date with all corporate rules, regulations and procedures necessary to perform these duties. Key Achievements • In 2017, Swift Zambia had differences between SAP BPC and Cargo Wise. I made a workbook that could highlight those differences, and with the approval of the controlling, those differences have been corrected. • DSV Zambia VAT returns were incorrectly prepared by BDO since December 2016 as a result of incorrect accounting of withholding tax. I discovered the errors and followed up with BDO and ZRA. The company recovered more than a million Kwacha in November 2017. • CargoWise1 Transactions detailed posed a big challenge in terms of presentation, especially for some of us who worked with Oracle. I created a series of steps for the transaction detailed to be formatted in a way that enables users to create pivot table. This has been shared and is benefiting us in GL. • In 2015, I performed corrective tax returns for my two EMENA entities (France and Belgium) for their last two assessment periods, helping the company claim back thousands of Euros that would otherwise be lost. • I also cleaned BMG Netting of intercompany transactions for my reporting entities, investigating and querying for long outstanding items. • I actively participated to the transition, as UTi reporting systems (Oracle and HFM) converted to DSV (SAP BPC) until the exit of the EMENA entity.
