Hi! I am Anita I am a writer, reader and would like to consider myself an anthropologist (feel free to google this if you are unsure what an anthropologist is). For the past few years I have worked in the academic sphere, I have lectured, tutored and worked as a student assistant. I am a keen critical thinker and enjoy learning about almost anything (from political regime failures to orchid care). I enjoy helping students grow and hone their own skills, especially when it comes to writing. There are few things as fulfilling as seeing a student gaining confidence in their abilities and find their own 'voice'. Based on my own education and work experience I will be able to aid you by helping you acquire research materials (academic and otherwise), teach referencing styles, essay formulation, language editing, expanding vocabulary and general comprehension etc. I have a love for languages and I am fluent in English and Afrikaans.

I lectured undergraduate courses in the application of social anthropology in film and media, key concepts in social anthropology and urban anthropology. I developed study outlines, source reading material, planned assignments and exams, lectured classes and graded papers as well as examinations. I have mastered simplifying complex concepts and issues, while educating learners to develop critical thinking skills using their own experiences as a guide. I also converted all study material for modules to an electronic platform used by the university.
I developed additional learning material for an Urban Anthropology module and organised additional classes. I organised and attended weekly tutorial meetings, and facilitated a tutorial programme which also consisted of assessing students’ work.
I am currently writing up my own research dissertation based on my own ethnographic fieldwork. Enthnographic research refers to long term interpersonal research where the researcher immerses themselves into the everyday experiences, labour and interaction of their research interest and participants. I conducted and completed ethnographic fieldwork with a bursary from African Unit for Transdisciplinary Health Research (AUTHeR) and North-West University (NWU) from August 2017 to March 2018. I have also presented a paper based on current research titled: “Clinic Gardens: Critically contextualising ‘Resilience’ in late modern South Africa”, at the annual Anthropology Southern Africa (ASnA) conference: Movement, Mobility, Transformation in Gaborone, Botswana from 25 - 28 September 2018.
During my degree I majored in English and Social Anthorpology. I achieved a merit certificate for best Social Anthropology student in 2012 I also took Art History, Philosophy, and French as additional courses during my undergraduate degree.
During my Honours I was selected for a German exchange program at Justus Liebig University in Giessen. Here I completed my Sociology course work and took part in research projects with refugees and completes German language course. I returned to South Africa after my semester abroad to complete my own ethnographic fieldwork and research dissertation for the Anthropology section of my degree.
I am great at helping students understand complex or foreign concepts in terms of their life and experience. I enjoy talking about stories and analysing what these stories mean with a greater context. For example considering what makes Shakespeare still relevant to people today. I have a lot of experience in summarising plots and other literary analysis features which I will be happy to teach you.
