I am a 27-year-old female who completed her PhD in Wine Biotechnology in February 2020. In my PhD and my now Postdoctoral Fellow position I focus on molecular microbiology and bioinformatics. I completed my undergraduate degree with Microbiology and Biotechnology, and Ecology, Environment and Conservation as my majors. My postgraduate education was in Wine Biotechnology with specialization in Molecular Microbiology. Outside of academics, I dabble in creative writing, drawing and digital art. I also have a Wordpress blog that I run. I have an education channel on Youtube (search for The Germophile) focusing on microbiology.

My Honours degree was completed in the Molecular Microbiology laboratory in the Institute for Wine Biotechnology. The degree focuses on wine chemistry, microbial ecology, grapevine science, wine fermentation and sensory analyses.
The Bachelor of Science degree offered a Microbiology and Biotechnology major as well as an Ecology, Environment and Conservation major, which I completed.
I have been studying biology since high school. Now, I am a PhD graduate in Wine Biotechnology. I enjoy biology and obtained a 78% for Life Sciences in my matric year (2010). I specialized in molecular microbiology and bioinformatics in my postgraduate training and I majored in Ecology, Environment and Conservation in undergrad at Wits University. I now work as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the South African Grape and Wine Research Institute

I have written a book and I read many books in a year. Reading is a passion of mine and I have always wanted to help children learn how to read and write. The literacy statistics in South Africa are not inspiring and it is a desire of mine to help change that. Education has opened doors for me and I would love to give back.
