Hi! I'm Delia, a language and learning enthusiast. I love reading and writing so much that I recently completed a Masters degree in Afrikaans literature. I am as passionate about stories as I am about making learning fun. I have tutored various grades since 2015 and enjoy helping people master the act of learning. If you need help with Afrikaans and/or English, whether it's language or literature, let me be the one to make the process fun!

As a part-time lecturer it was often my job to teach the work designed by other lecturers, but occasionally I had the opportunity to create my own course work within the Department of Afrikaans. I taught both first and second year students during this time, and it is this experience that not only ignited my passion for teaching, but gave me the skills to teach work created by another teacher, making the work personal and finding ways of engaging students even when the work had to be conducted online.
Apart from tutoring scholars, I also tutored first year students in the Department of Afrikaans, aiding with assignments, providing support, explaining work and facilitating discussion classes.
As a part-time tutor for primary and high school students I would help learners with their homework in both English and Afrikaans. I would also assist in their exam preparation and aid them in planning for and completing assignments. I don't believe in giving extra homework to students who already live busy lives, but I do try and create a manageable schedule for their schoolwork and, most importantly, allowing them to engage with the work on their terms. Learning, I believe, is a personal experience. My aim is to help students add their personal touch to studying language and literature.
I completed my MA in Afrikaans in 2020 with distinction, and it is during this degree that my passion for teaching Afrikaans really ignited.
I completed my Honours in Afrikaans in 2017 with distinction, but also had African literature and Children's literature as two of my English subjects.
I majored in Afrikaans and English at the University of Pretoria, with Dutch, editing, Zulu, visual culture and sociology as some of my other subjects.
Afrikaans literature and linguistics has been my life since 2014. I am a devoted Afrikaans literary and language scholar. I have mastered the art of writing essays, quickly understanding and interpreting literature, and mastering grammar and vocabulary. More so, I have a passion for teaching Afrikaans and believe that I can help students make this subject their passion too - from personalising literature to writing well structured essays and answers.

I majored in English at the University of Pretoria whilst completing my BA Languages degree. I also went on to study English literature during my Honours year in Afrikaans. I think precisely because English isn't my home language, but a mastered second language, I can help both the second language speaker and the first language speaker. I find that English in primary school is about comprehension, whilst English is high school tests your writing and communication skills. I can help students master both comprehension, and communication and writing skills because my degree requires both.
