My name is Kimberly. I am currently a PhD candidate in science. I have been a student most of my life and with that, I have learnt a great deal of how to absorb and understand information. In my academic journey, I have had the privilege to tutor undergrad students and help them understand the work in the simplest way possible. People are different, therefore my tutoring methods for each individual is unique. My teaching experience has taught me to be patient, kind, understanding, motivate the student and make learning fun.

Data capturing and compiling various databases Help students with their research Attend research-based forums Observe diagnostic tests being performed Help perform some screening tests Witness and perform real-time PCR Perform, analyse and do trouble-shooting for real-time PCR Assign mutation names to DNA variants detected with Sanger sequencing Perform and analyse Sanger sequencing Witness and perform the protein truncation Carry out procedures under supervision using the SOP (standard operating procedure) Developing x-rays Run gels using agarose gel electrophoresis Ensure that the files are updated and in order Aid in the analysis of data Make buffers Record the samples that have arrived
Identify areas of research Ask questions to people in regard to the research (field research) Compose and answer emails

Dissertation title “Mutation detection in the Endoglin gene in a family affected with Hereditary Haemorrhagic Telangiectasia”.
I have honours in Behavioral Genetics. Behavioural Genetics focuses on an individual or people's behaviour based on their genes. I did a literature study on Neanderthals and whether their gene pool is admixed with modern human genes since the two species co-existed.
Core Modules Human Molecular Biology Genetics Biochemistry Other Modules Chemistry Calculus Biostatistics Zoology
My undergrad and postgrad degrees are in the field of biological sciences. I majored in human molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry. I have tutored undergrad students in the subjects of genetics and biochemistry. I obtained honours and masters degrees in the field of genetics. I understand biology well, I have tutored the subject previously and I am looking forward to tutoring it again.
