My name is Niekie and I'm a qualified Electrical and Electronic Engineer from Stellenbosch University. I find Mathematics to be my favourite subject with the Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) being a close second. I enjoy these subjects, because they are objective and thus have a wrong or right answer, regardless of opinion. There are concrete rules and methods to follow and once you understand these rules and methods, you understand the work. I like the simplicity of that. But more than just liking Mathematics because of the simplicity, I love the fact that it opens up your mind to problem-solving. You get taught various methods to solve a problem (like the different ways of factorization) and then need to use problem-solving to find the best solution to the problem at hand. This skill of problem-solving will be used for the rest of your life, inside and outside of math tests. Maths just helps you to refine that skill. I also firmly believe that every person on this earth can do maths with ease. You can count, right? You can add, subtract, multiply, and divide, right? So you can do maths. Now we just need to teach you some new things in maths. And of course, you have the ability to learn that, I just need to explain it to you in the right way. Because in maths, there are multiple ways to solve a certain type of problem and we need to find the tool that you fit with best. You are completely capable of mastering this subject. It's really not as scary as you think. I know, because I used to be scared of it too. And then I realized, with the help of an amazing tutor, that all my fears were just me not understanding the work yet and that's where he came in to help me. I really hope to not just help those struggling with maths, but to open their eyes to the beauty and wonders of the subject and maybe awaken a love for the subject in them, that my tutor awoke in me.
