Are you having trouble with Math? Do you panic at the idea of having to do Math? Don't worry. I've been there. But to become an Engineer, I had to become good at Math. I found fun and interesting ways to learn and most importantly TO UNDERSTAND it. I love Mathematics, and I will find a way to get you to love it too. Failing that, I'll show you that there is nothing to be afraid of. Once that fear is gone, you'll see a marked improvement on your grades. What makes me different is that I am very animated, and extremely passionate. I'll show you why you are learning each section, provide simple processes to follow, and make sure that you understand the fundamentals of Mathematics, meaning that what you learn now will help you in future Math courses.

I was the full time ESL/TEFL teacher for 3 campuses under the school name. The students ranged from grades 1 to 8. It is a public school, as such had a set curriculum from which I taught. Frankly the content was a bit dry and had very little content, so I spent much of my time planning lessons that would be fun and interactive. I found that the best way to engage the class was to have competitive games that are simple enough so that everyone can participate. I would always try to start and end each class with laughter.
I teach students that range in age from 13-17 years. The syllabus is an online based system provided by Calvert. I teach Chinese nationals whose first language is Mandarin. The students have varying skill levels in English, so each day is a new challenge trying to present the material in such a way that everyone can understand the sometimes complex concepts. If anything, I would say that my primary job is a Math teacher, but every day I teach my students English. Mathematics has its own language, and can be spoken in English. But to explain terminology often requires the use of language that they are not familiar with. So every day I learn a little more about how to communicate with people whose first language is not English.
I finished school, and instead of taking a gap year, I ended up taking a gap decade! After 10 years of working at the most exciting things I could think of, I decided it was time to get a degree. I decided on Mechanical Engineering because I loved problem solving and designing new inventions. The only problem was, I was out of school for 10 years, doing almost no mathematics. Engineering is heavily focused on Mathematics, especially Algebra and Calculus. So I spent the first 6 months re-teaching myself high school maths, just to be at the same level as everyone else. It was awful! I have never felt so stupid in my life! I went to my sister for help, and she told me, "Relax, they're only numbers and letters." She then gave me the best piece of advice I've ever heard for Math... Practice! Math isn't a theoretical subject that you can understand just by reading. The understanding comes in doing the example questions. By doing that, not only was I able to pass Math, but I developed a true passion for it! I also realized the secret to learning Math, which I want to teach to you.
I've been a Math teacher at an international high school for the past year. The reason you should consider me is because I have a rare ability to help people get rid of their fear of Mathematics. This is because I too had that same fear. In order to get my engineering degree, which I did 10 years after high school, I had to reteach myself the entire high school Math syllabus to be at the same level as the other students. But by figuring it out the hard way, I learned how to make it not only understandable, but relatable, which is why my students are doing so well. That and my animated teaching style make me the ideal tutor.
