Experience

Au Pair

I took a gap year in 2016 where I was an au pair for a beautiful two year old boy. I would pick him up from day care in the afternoons and we would head home. I would make lunches and dinners for him while his parents worked, and did shopping for the house. We spent our days outside, and I taught him a little bit of water safety in the pool. I learnt so much about the teaching and raising of children during this year and would not trade the experience for anything.

Assistant Swimming Coach

I have had the opportunity as a Sport Science student to experience, shadow and coach at Maties Swimming Club with groups ranging from children to teenagers. Each group within the club, Juniors, Juniors A and Youth, all possess a variety of skill sets and fitness levels within swimming program. During my involvement at Maties Swimming Club I developed excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, planning and problem-solving skills, which has enabled me to coach and interact with any age and competency level effectively. My mentor coach has provided me with new insights into the coaching of high performing athletes by combining updated technology as an excellent intervention strategy.

BSc Sport Science - Stellenbosch University

I completed my Bachelor of Science in Sport Science at Stellenbosch University. My first year was a straight BSc year where I completed university Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology while completing my required Sport Science subjects. My major BSc subject was physiology (fancy biology) which I completed throughout my degree. My Sport Science major was Applied Kinesiology which focused on the injuries, testing and training of athletes in all sports with my own main focus being swimming. My undergraduate degree was very busy and I had to continuously juggle studying, sport and a social life.

Subjects taught
  • General Maths & Science

Science and maths go hand in hand. “Most of my work as a math teacher isn’t even math. It’s helping students believe that they can also do math. We don’t talk about that enough” – José Vilson. Being a Mathematics and Science tutor is more than teaching maths, its instilling belief in my students to work to the best of their abilities. To cultivate each-and-every student to believe in themselves beyond what they think their capabilities are. Mathematics and Science are subjects that requires a calm mind and confidence, and I believe that I will be able to create this for my students, while covering the necessary content.

  • Biology

I have deep knowledge and passion for biology as a subject. I majored in physiology during my undergraduate degree and one of my subject specialisations as a secondary school teacher is biology. Physiology both broadened my knowledge and deepened my interest in biology as a subject, specifically with how our humans body work. It is honestly fascinating. I believe that I will be a great biology tutor due to my extensive background knowledge on it, as well as how to learn the masses of information efficiently as that is they key thing with biology.

Science, much like maths, is a logical subject that needs to be dealt with a calm but confident mind. I believe that as a tutor I will be able to install such confidence into you as a student while covering the necessary subject content.
