Keelan K - Tutor in Berea

I genuinely believe that education is an immensely powerful tool in addressing the myriad of global development challenges we currently face, and I am very grateful that I am able to participate in the education process. I try to treat all of my students as individuals, working with them to address their specific challenges and develop a personalized study method.

Peer tutoring, and outreach tutoring programs

I have been involved in organizing, and facilitating multiple peer tutoring projects, through my position as a student leader. For instance in 2017 a ran weekly peer tutoring sessions in which i would select course content which i considered to be particularly pertinent and then facilitate group discussion around the topic. I was also involved in a trail project in which 2nd and 3rd year students where matched up with 1st and 2nd year students respectively to act in the capacity of a mentor. Finally I also participated in the student run out reach tutoring program which centered around bringing varsity students to tutor at schools in disadvantaged areas.

Bsc Biology - University of The Witswaterstand

Microbiology and Chemistry 3rd year majors.

Subjects taught
  • Statistics

I did a lot of maths in high school (math and math further Cambridge A levels), and got special permission to do maths major in the first year of my undergraduate (which I got a certificate of first class for), so i do know what I'm doing when it comes to maths, but I also understand that maths, at least as it's taught in most schools, isn't exactly everyone's favorite subject, and I have the patience to meet students wherever they're at in terms of their understanding of the subject and move with them from there.

  • Chemistry

Well I'm also a student so this stuff is basically my day job, but it's not just that I know it pretty well, it's also that it fascinates me and i'm genuinely passionate about learning and teaching it.
