Arielle P - Tutor in Indlovu DC

Hello everyone. I am a young teacher looking to break into the world of tutoring. I studied a BA in Languages and Culture at Stellenbosch University, where I majored in French, German, and Mandarin. I then went on to complete my BA Honours in French. My thesis was a translation of a YA book written by a popular French author, accompanied by an analysis on the translation of YA literature. While I was completing my Honours, I worked as a tutor for the university's MFL department. During this time, I did one-on-one tutoring sessions with a blind second- year student, and group computer lessons for classes of first-years students. It was at this time that I developed an interest in teaching, in particular in teaching languages. I am passionate about teaching, and assisting others in learning about the subjects about which I am passionate. I love teaching languages, as I find the process of learning languages fascinating. I feel that my experience having learnt three foreign languages myself gives me an edge as a language teacher - I know where all the difficulties lie, and how best to learn a challenging new language. However, I am also a qualified History and Geography teacher. I am a passionate lifelong learner, and History and Culture are fields that interest me. I have worked as an ESL teacher in China, and a professional teacher in South Africa. Most recently, I worked as an English and Mandarin teacher at Kearsney College in KZN. I also have experience working as an online EFL teacher for Chinese children, as well as an online personal tutor teaching French. My varied experience has taught me to make my materials interesting, and to adapt them to my student's needs. Personally, I am a friendly, but not outspoken person. I enjoy reading and doing crosswords. I love to draw and paint, and I am passionate about nature. I enjoy camping and fishing, and just being outdoors in general. I am also a passionate foodie, and like to watch cooking shows and videos, as well as to hoard cookbooks and try new restaurants and recipes often. As a teacher, I am patient and encouraging. I try my best to adapt my lessons and materials to the needs and interests of my students. As I am a young teacher, I like to include modern tweaks, such as media and video clips, as well as pop culture references. I will work hard to ensure the success of my students. I hope to meet you soon!
