I am a currently a 3rd year medical student at the University of Cape Town. I have a keen interest in biological and physical sciences, as well as English and Afrikaans literature; language and poetry, although I read widely and enjoy topics from many fields. While my understanding of the content I teach is the foundation of my teaching ability, I feel that my passion for the mechanisms of learning is my greatest advantage as a tutor. More specifically, I take pleasure in optimising the learning process towards the type of material being learnt; the end goal of the learning and most importantly: the student. By combining my knowledge of the subjects I love with my passion for learning & understanding I am confident that I can help you achieve your academic goals.

I struggled with maths during my early years. Because of this, my desire to improve forced me to truly understand not only the concepts of mathematics but the way it is learned. I did pure maths in high school and matriculated with an A aggregate as well as scoring 2 A's for both mathematics NBT's. Given my experience with learning and understanding maths, as well as my previous history in tutoring mathematical literacy, I am confident that I can bring you from where you are to where you want to be in your understanding and mastery of mathematical literacy.

I come from an Afrikaans mother tongue family, with the language extending through generations of my forefathers. Being surrounded by the language throughout my life, I have become very familiar with it. As a result I excelled in high school Afrikaans. Extending beyond high school, my medical school career requires me to be fluent in Afrikaans. Hence, for the past 3 years, I have continued to study Afrikaans language. Many students often matriculate with pristine reports displaying a poor Afrikaans mark as the only stain. Whether it is the way it is taught, or the nature of the language, these shortcomings are something I feel are not necessary. That's where I come in.

Biology has always been my one true passion. Having grown up around the subject and taking a keen interest in it during school I naturally always excelled in the subject. By the time I entered university, my love for the subject remained and I decided to pursue a degree in Medicine. In my course of study biological logic is the foundation of all that we do. Understanding the processes that control the mechanisms of life composes the majority of what I do on a daily basis. Falling under the greater heading of biology come an assortment of more specific fields such as anatomy; physiology; histology; immunology; biochemistry and many more - all of which I have become very familiar with over the past 3 years of my studies. Further more, due to the massive volumes of content we are required to do in my field of study, I have become very skilled in the art of condensing, memorising and understanding information. Because of this I feel confident in my ability to bring any student from where they are to where they want to be in their understanding and mastery of biology, and hopefully, can instil the same passion for the subject that my teachers provided me.

The English language has always been something I've thoroughly enjoyed. Being a keen reader and literature enthusiast since a young age, I naturally excelled in the study of the language. I spent most of my high school career in the Ad English stream, a separate syllabus focusing on more advanced language and literature content. In this time I have developed a keen understanding of English grammar, concord and vocabulary. Beyond the technical, my writing and poetry skills leave me more than capable of assisting any student looking to improve their grades. English is often a subject that brings down students who excel in other, more analytical subjects. I feel that this is truly unnecessary and that I can provide the knowledge and insight required to succeed in the study of the English language.
